Working on my fitness…

2 Oct

Last night I ran. Well I ran intervals. And I didn’t start until 8:45pm so it was a late night for me. Someone decided he was going to be super cranky and fight sleep from 5:30pm-10:pm. (Dan finally got him to go to sleep on a pile of blankets in the basement.) While I don’t have a picture of that I do have a picture of him snuggling Finny when he woke up.

From my instagram: follow me Zandralexia

Yes the baby is in a tuxedo sleep sack, he’s a gentleman what can I say.

Anyway so I got to run. My last run was on September 22nd and I went 2 miles in 34 minutes, I was discouraged. Last night the plan was to go for 45 minutes. I ended up going 2.15 miles in 31 minutes. The reason there is something wrong with our treadmill. The first run the belt kept stopping, like a dead stop then would randomly start and was messing with my knees, but it stopped doing it after a few minutes. I figured it was kinks from not using it. Last night however it kept freezing, like the screen and everything and after I did the 31 minutes that is part of my Couch 2 5k app I paused it to get the numbers and journal them before continuing on for the 45 minutes, the whole screen flashed and went black. The treadmill had shut itself off and rebooted losing my workout. I was so frustrated/proud of doing so much better that I decided to call it a night.

Tomorrow I have my 6 week check up with my doctor who will tell me if I am cleared to resume all normal activity, which means strength training!!! I am so excited as I may be 9 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight but my body looks nothing like it did!

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday! Im spending the day snuggling with my baby and mailing Scentsy Catalogs/making calls. Only 12 days til its back to work :(. Don’t get me wrong I like my job I just like being home with this little man more!!!

Body image and fitness.

23 Feb

This is a big issue for women, most think unless you are pin thin you are not fit. Most men think that as well. In fact it is a topic of conversation more often than not about runners stereotypical body types, who has them, who doesn’t and times you race in relation to that. I know I certainly fall into that category, I think I have a terrible body and fitness image of myself, however I have to remind myself that I have really good blood pressure and cholesterol and it is better than some people who are 20 lbs lighter than I am and eat junk food all the time and do not exercise. I do exercise and try to change my body so I can be a better runner, but I do not think a certain body type will get me there. I will always have big boobs and most “runner” body types are flat chested, people are surprised all the time when I tell them I run. I know I struggle with my fitness goals vs my bodies appearance and many other women do also. Then I came across this picture.

These are all Olympic Athletes, with all different sorts of body types. Yes the distance runners are small framed and slender, but ALL of these ladies are fit. All of these ladies are in the peak of physical fitness for THEIR sport. It just shows that everyone is different and there is no set type to be good at certain sports. I am 5’8 so I am much taller than both distance runners, but I do plan to run a marathon and successfully finish it. I think even having a small frame and weighing less would not make me a more successful runner, however I know working hard and training correctly will help me accomplish that no matter how much I weigh, my height, my build, or any of that. I think we all as women and men need to accept that fact that we are who were are and love ourselves for who we are. If we can do that we can do anything, and you can do anything I never thought I would be able to run a 5k after breaking ribs, but I did. Yes it was hard and it is still sometimes hard to run and breathe correctly but I work at it everyday just like these athletes do to perfect their talents. Hard work is what will get you there, as will loving the body you were given, and not because you envy those who have the typical body type for your sport. At our 5k race there were people of all body types and when we looked around before the race there were people I just knew would beat me or be slower than me, and I was wrong on both counts. You can never assume anything, especially what you are capable of and THAT is what you should take away from this post.

Bad outfit choices, loner cars and great dinners!

16 Feb

Dan and I went to the gym this morning before work! We went to the new Cardio Express in Vernon, it is really nice. I was excited to use the new treadmills they have. WHOMP WHOMP! I wore these new yoga pants I bought in a medium, or that is what the hanger said, they were larges and thus way to big for me to be running in. I swear at one point I had the waist band over my belly button and still falling. Really hoping I can shrink them. All the outfit rearranging led to a very frustrated me who walked fast more than running and thus ended up with this!

1.8 in 14:13?!?!?! WHATTTTT HORRENDOUS!! Oh well there is always tomorrow to wear shorts and actually bust out a good run!

PLUS THEY HAVING SPINNING CLASSES, Really want to get into doing those to build my leg strength and overall endurance!

We then decided to do some abs!

Hahaha, you can totally see Dan’s head in the mirror and only my forehead because he is so tall and also yelling at me for taking pictures while working out. Also hey pink sneaker :). I had an 8lb medicine ball Dan a 12!

We did a circuit of 2 sets of each, we were going to do three but had stuff to do before work. Yes we did sit ups on the big balls, I did mine slow up for 4 then down for 4. We also did those things where you rest your shins on top of the ball and tighten your abs and roll the ball in. Then we did side touches with the medicine ball, and bell ringers, and hip bridges. AND PLANKS! I can still do them for a minute and side planks for 40 seconds. I was really glad I have kept some of my strength from training with Jeff, even though I have not been able to go since November. However I can go again at anytime, and will definitely love every second!

After the gym we had to drop my tank of a car off and pick up this bad boy loner! Somehow a nail got in my tire, my axel boots ripped (maybe because 500 trees fell in our driveway!) and I needed an oil change.

Hey little house :). Yes we have a red house with a tin roof, you can thank my father. We do every time it rains! You see our house was built by my grandfather in the 50’s and was the first house my dad lived in so it had to be restored to original condition. So even though it is loud when it rains, it is awesome for snow because it slides right off! Plus I am very sentimental and think its cool we live in my Memere and Peperes old house, but they are not married anymore. (Clarifying because eventually they will be in the blog with their “new” spouses and I don’t want anyone confused.) My grandma is my mothers mom, and she has dinners Wednesday. My grandpa is in heaven, so yes I have 5 living grandparents and one that I love with all my heart that I wish I could see again!

Anyway back to the car, I had an ’05 Altima before my Armada so when the choice came between this one and the rouge you knew what I would choose! It is pretty sweet! MEMORIESSSSSS!

Then we went to work 12-8! After work we went to Chili’s for dinner I had already eaten dinner at work but Dan was really hungry and this was my Valentines dinner out. (Chilis is my all time favorite restaurant, say what you will but I love it!)

So I figured I could score a nice lunch for the next day, and mission accomplished (I know you are all worried about my nutrition!)

Sweet and Spicy chicken, from the healthier menu items they offer. Steamed broccoli, rice and chicken in a habanero/orange glaze. AWESOME!

P.S.- the one bite I took out of the chicken was pretty much it, all of that went into a takeout container to accompany me to my office tomorrow!

Dan got Taco’s they also looked good, and yes I snuck a picture of his food.

he already ate one and the rice and beans.

Okay well I have to go to bed now, I am feeling bad about today’s run and thinking about tomorrows! Plus I have to get it done early in the morning. Goodnight friends, and feel free to leave me some comments, because I really enjoy them!

Recipes Low Calorie Pancakes and Brown Sugar Garlic Chicken!

14 Feb
As requested here is the recipe for the pancakes! Just divine! Under that I am including the chicken recipe from dinner last night, so good! Also a picture, the Potato Skins turned into Potato Casserole as I was not delicate enough with scooping the sweet potatoes out, but oh well still tasted great!

“Blintz” Pancakes with Blueberry Syrup
Makes 8 silver dollar pancakes, serves four. From “Cook Yourself Thin Faster.”

Ingredients
3/4 cup low-fat (1%) cottage cheese
3/4 cup fat-free sour cream
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp baking powder
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 pinch salt
2 egg whites
2 tsp sugar (I leave this out and they come out just fine, but if you want a little sweetness, the calorie count below includes it).
cooking spray
1/4 cup pure maple syrup
1 cup blueberries

Directions
1. In a medium bowl, mix the cottage cheese, sour cream, and vanilla.
2. In a small bowl, mix the dry ingredients (except the sugar), then gently stir into the cheese mixture.
3. Using a standing mixer fitted with a whisk or a handheld mixer, mix the egg whites and sugar together until soft peaks form. They will have doubled in volume; do not overmix or they will become dry.
4. With a spatula, mix in one third of the whites to lighten the cheese mixture, and then gently fold in the rest of the whites.
5. Spray a large griddle or nonstick pan with cooking spray and heat the pan over medium-high heat. Using a 1/4 cup measure or large spoon, drop dollops of batter onto the hot pan and smooth to form silver dollar pancakes. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes until lightly golden brown and turn, cooking an additional 1 to 2 minutes until cooked through. Keep warm as you cook the remaining batter.
6. For the syrup: combine the maple syrup and the blueberries in a small saucepan and cook over low heat until the mixture is warm, stirring occasionally, about 2 to 3 minutes.

Brown Sugar & Garlic Chicken Breasts

The original recipe called for breasts but I had boneless skinless tenders so that is what we used.

 • 4 Chicken breasts or 8 chicken tenders
 • 4 tablespoons Brown Sugar
 • 3 tablespoons olive oil
 • 3 cloves of garlic chopped finely or pressed

Instructions:

Mix everything excpet chicken into a sauce pan and heat over meduim heat, whisking until smooth. Put chicken into a casserole dish LINE IT WITH TIN FOIL, OR YOU MAY LOSE A GOOD BAKING DISH R.I.P. PYREX :(. Pour sugar mixture over chicken and bake at 450* for 15-20 minutes. The combo will bubble up and the top/sides of the dish may look bruned when it comes out, but it isnt! You may want to add a bit of extra oil or water before cooking.

Still really good as pictured below!

Let me tell you none of that chicken was burned, I know that last piece looks like it got quite the suntan, but it was so delicious!

This was Dan’s plate I ate while he was at the gym, and I ate it all then realized NO PICTURE, I need that for the blog!!!!

Finally a close up of the casserole YUMMY!

Hope everyone has a great Valentines Day! I will be posting this recipe later, also low calorie and I will make it again!

1000 hits and Training!

23 Jan

So first I want to say thank you to everyone who reads my blog, because I have hit 1000 views. I was not sure anyone was going to read this but people do! So thanks for traveling along with me!

Training yesterday ended up only being one run because this happened….

I got the photo here <http://www.newstimes.com/news/article/49ers-lead-Giants-7-0-after-1st-in-NFC-title-game-2674259.php#photo-2147994> sorry I dont know how to link anything!

THE GIANTS ARE GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL!!!!! AND NOW SARA (middeaged runner, you should check out her blog she is hillarious! And a Pats fan but I will let that slide.) AND I GET THE REMATCH WE DREAMED OF!!!!

Anywho yesterday morning I did a run with the intent of doing two! I only finished with one, I did 2.6 miles in 34 minutes and was really happy with the result as I feel like I am getting stronger in my runs and my endurance is going up. Because I could not do my 2nd run, because I cannot see the TV from my treadmill, I decided to do weights in front of the game. I ended up doing 30 goblet squats, 40 cross body punches with dumbells, 40 dumbell presses, 40 dumbell rows, 20 pushups on my stairs meaning feet flat on the floor and using the third step up as leverage, (I suck at upper body strength). I did more arm stuff too, but come on the game was on and your are getting bored hearing about it anyway!!!!!

So I am going to wrap it up so I can have a small dinner, some chocolate milk and cuddle with my Finny and Daniel!

Weight Loss and Running.

23 Jan

I have never been skinny, well lets rephrase that, I have never thought I was skinny. I was very thin all the way up to around age 15-16. I have been on a constant diet since I hit puberty, and what woman hasn’t. I am not afraid to tell you what my weight is, (because I dont have anyone to impress, I have the man of my dreams and he loves me the way I already am) and I will but first let me explain. I lost a lot of weight before the wedding (I was originally 200lbs when I started losing weight), the week before I was around 162.0 and the day of I was around 174.2 due to stress and relaxing on my workouts.

Now that we have went on the honeymoon and throwing out my back I weigh in at around 185.0 and am 5’8″. I am rounding up its closer to 184, but since its not .0 I am not counting it. Yes I am hard on myself I always have been in life. Sports, weight, appearance, but that is just me. Now with the help of running I have become more motivated to finally do it once and for all. My goal is to be between 145-148, so I have around 40 pounds to lose. Thanks to the magic of pintrest.com I found a really good motivator.

The post-it on top says “counting beans, not for consumption.” Mom wrote that because we are accountants and I think she thought it was funny.

This is actually mine from my desk, as you should be able to tell due to the hello kitty post it! I bought the glass jar at Homegoods for $4.99. I have around 40 pounds to lose so there are 400 chocolate candies in there and they each represent .01/pound. so for each .01 I lose I get to take one out when the jar is empty I am done, and then I have a cute little jar for my desk! Plus I get to give the candies to my co-workers, I wanted colored rocks but the store didnt have any! Plus if I do decide to have any they are only 15 calories for 5, so not bad! Plus with this sitting on my desk (where I spend most of my time,) I have to think of everything I eat.

The nicest part is that I do not run to lose weight, I found something I really do love, that motivates me to eat healthier and be more active overall, the weight loss is just an added bonus. I did put on around 5lbs when I first started running again, but that is normal and I will work through it and burn it right off!

If people can go on national television and weigh themselves I can share my weight with the internet. And I do, I use sparkpeople.com as well, and have made some great friends there.

Whatever will motivate you is what will work for you, so I am proud of myself for making this breakthrough in motivation!
