Weekend Recap, minus Easter….

1 Apr

This weekend began for me on Sunday as I worked Friday and Saturday but it was still very busy.

Friday was our first really nice day around here it was also Good Friday so no one was working and there was no school. Since we work retail we were open and man was it busy. Friday also started Dan’s Birthday weekend so I gave him his birthday gifts and we had a date night just the two of us.

Dan and the nachos we shared for dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings. I don’t know who came up with the idea for these but they were so good and would be even better at home…made with your own ingredients. Chips then three flavors. One: Pulled BBQ pork with nacho cheese and onions. The middle section was buffalo chicken nachos with boneless buffalo wings, blue cheese carrots and celery and the last part was regular nachos, chili, cheese and lettuce. They were good! If you read the blog you know I am not a pork fan, but pulled pork is becoming a quick favorite.

I also gave Dan his birthday gift in his Easter basket after all his bday was on Easter.

Please note Finny the photobombers foot to the left. Dan got white t’s, the new Justin Timberlake CD, the new Bio Shock game, gum, trail mix and the whole bottom of the basket is filled with reese’s and twix eggs.

Saturday I was up early not feeling well so I went to my 5k and watched my friends run before I had to head out to work.

This was the group, much larger than last years.

Lizzy Race

I am in the back to the left behind the lady in the yellow shirt, who is also our friend Lizzy’s mother. We run the race every year in memory of her and it is always great to see and catch up with my college friends!

IMG_3665 IMG_3666

There was a balloon release in memory of those who have passed and I was the official key holder for all my buddies racing :).

Then the race began and I had a lot of waiting to do. Since it isnt a big race there are not many spectators but I was okay because it was a beautiful day.

IMG_3667 IMG_3669

The male winner crossed n 21:00 which is amazing as this is a hilly course. Well it was amazing to me because I try not to train hills, but I think I will have to start after Baby K arrives!!!

The first person in our group (who I personally knew) to cross did so in 25 something, so not too shabby!

After that it was off to work where we were having an Easter Egg hunt, Pictures with the Easter Bunny and a Petting Zoo. 200 children showed up! By the time I got there that part was over but it was still super busy! I left work around 3:45pm (we close at 3) and Dan did not get out until after 4:30pm, people were really enjoying the nice weather.

Later Dan and I went and saw some friends at a near by motocross track that they keep up.

The bike in the background is a fullsize dirt bike and the one in the foreground is a minibike. Currently Dan has a mini bike like that one but is buying himself a late bday present and getting a dirt bike. I foresee a lot of time spent down here this summer. For those of you that read the blog and know I live in CT and don’t believe I live in a farm area I hope you do now, especially as you drive next to a farm plot to get to the track.

After that we went to dinner.

IMG_3674 IMG_3675

These are from the burger place that is about 2 minutes from our house! Buffalo Chicken with Sweet Potato fries for me and The 3 little pigs for Dan with steak fries. Dans burger was a pork, hot and sweet sausage and bacon patty with a fried egg and I think an onion bun. He really enjoyed it!

Later that night we met up with friends and had a great time celebrating Dan.

The next day was Easter….but that is for the next post.

Disney Princess Half Recap!

24 Feb

Before anything else I have to say happy 15 weeks to my little peanut and partner in crime in this race Baby K! You were so good all race and I did not get sick once…..the baby is cranky sometimes if I don’t eat enough/too much and I am still trying to find that balance!

Anyway back to the race. This is easily the biggest race I have done and had over 21000 finishers out of 34000 runners! The way this worked was you were put into corrals based off of your projected finish time. I was in corral E, they went to H. Each corral was let off every 5-10 minutes to try and clear up some course space. Here is a picture of the start.

IMG_3554 IMG_3524

The first picture is of Corral A starting the race, from the Official Run Disney Facebook Page.

The second is of my corral finally getting to the start. We took off at 6:05 am. I was getting really tired as I had been up since 1 am. But as the fireworks went off I got a nice surge of adrenaline. IMG_3528

Around mile 2 I swallowed a huge bug….that was fun. It was dark and I was breathing hard…..close your mouth Alex!!!

Each mile marker was a story book! I got a bunch of them but I never stopped to take pictures so this is the best one I have!

They also had characters across the whole course and Disney music playing from different movies! It was very entertaining.

Right before mile 6 you go through Cinderella’s castle. It was very fun, by now the course got really narrow and everyone walked to take it all in.

That was my only issue with the race, it was so crowded. I was still do interval runs at this point and had to walk more than I wanted to at this point.

I thought this banner was amazing. I mean look at the size of it compared to that car.

We were almost back to Epcot at mile 10 and had to go up and around an overpass. You take for granted the steepness and slants of overpasses in a car, but not when you are walking up it!

This photo is looking down on all the people below who had yet to go around the bend and up the slanting overpass.

That is it for pictures until I finish the race. I do not have a picture of my costume, but will once I get the race photos in 2 weeks. The reason being I think Disney was a bit unprepared traffic wise. We got on a bus a 3:15 am and arrived at the race grounds  (usually 14 minutes away) at 4:45 am. Thus Dan and I split up and he went to the race retreat tent to relax and I went to the starting line.

After the race was over I easily found Dan and we headed back to the retreat tent. I pad $99.00 for each of us to have access to the tent and I really do recommend it.  Before the race I was able to eat half a bagel, and a banana. I also got a powerade and was happy to have the opportunity to have that before the race. Dan was able to eat while I was running. When I was done I went to the tent and was able to eat as well.

We also got flip flops, and a towel that said Disney Princess half. On the way out it was hand lotion and luna bars. I also got a drink ticket for the bar….I didnt use that clearly!!

While I was eating it was photo time.

IMG_3544 IMG_3545 IMG_3546 IMG_3547 IMG_3549

Dan in his Cheer Squad shirt. He got that in his welcome kit for the retreat.

My Medal and my running for two shirt. My tutu is the only thing you cant see….I wore my pro compression pink argyle socks and it was a good look!

A tired me…..exhausted, also my super curly humidity hair is cute I know!

Finally in true Dan fashion he took a lot of photos so this face was very necessary!

Then we headed back to the hotel and napped. Dan got me some food and then I fell asleep! It was wonderful to relax with Dan after the race and feel really good about myself. Will I ever run another half this pregnant? NO probably not. It as a great experience for sure but way too tiring. I was happy with my time of 3:35 especially with something like 97% humidity. It was great for today and I am so proud I accomplished something while pregnant that most people will NEVER do!

Disney Princess Half Marathon Top 10…..

24 Feb

I am writing this at 2:20 am. Wasn’t my plan to wake up at 3 am you might ask? The answer is yes it was! But I woke up in true pregnant lady fashion at 1 am having to pee and havent been able to fall back asleep. Call it insomnia, call it jitters, call it whatever but it is what it is. Being awake and half dressed while Dan snores next to me, and I cannot justify waking him until 3 am, prompted me to make this post. 10 things about this race that I needed to share with all of you…..Here we go.

10- The number of days Dan and I have been away from home. We are having fun and all but I miss my little Finny munchkin.

9- The number of toenails I have coming into this race. This surprised me when last saturday one of my little toe nails fell off since I have NOT been training much at all. Thank you morning sickness!

8-  The number of rides I was able to go on while at Universal and Magic Kingdom. Can I just say magic Kingdom is the perfect place to go for pregnant ladies and small children, almost all the rides are do-able! This helped ease a bit of my race stress!

7- Around the number of times I looked at this thing yesterday and got really nervous about running through it.

I am a bit concerned about completing the race in a 16 minute mile pace, but darn it I will power walk this whole thing if I have to!

6- The minimum number of times I will have to tell myself I can do this. In case you havent figured this out I don’t feel well prepared for this race. I was too sick the first 3 months of Pregnancy to adequately train but I wasn’t going to give up and not do it. So I suppose I have to keep that feeling alive today!

5- The time I have to be in my corral by! This is the earliest race I have ever done, but also probably the most fun and rewarding. See number 2 for why.

4- The number of miles I will run before I feel like absolute death, I did 6 a couple weeks ago but I was struggling. But hey thats what quick walk breaks are for right!

3- Well 3:30, the cutoff time for the race. This is only 40 minutes more than my PR time. BUT if I can keep my feet moving I should be able to do it!

2- The amount of people racing under bib 11430. So I bet by now you can tell I am freaking out about finishing. The number one thing that will keep me going today is being a hero for someone else. I always want my children to think of me as a positive role model and it will be a great story to one day tell him/her about how they ran a half marathon with me!

1- No matter what I finish in I plan on crossing that finish line strong! I will then be number 1 to myself knowing I accomplished something I was jittery and unsure of!

*Finally because I am sure they are both freaking out reading this, to Mom L and Mom K don’t worry I will be careful and walk a lot. I will not push myself super hard and endanger your grandchild. I do kind of love this baby already and look out for it on a daily basis! 😉

Well time to finish getting ready, wake up dan and head out!

Disney Princess Race Expo and more…

23 Feb

Yesterday we went to the Expo, because today we are headed to the parks for a little bit and then I am going to bed. A 3:00 am wake up will be hard! The race gun goes off at 5:35 am.

Anyway back to the expo. It was very crowded, but the lines were much better when I went around 2 pm, then I had heard they were earlier in the day! People are super crazy over anything that says Disney and Disney knows it! They had so many things for sale. While I did buy things at the expo, it was more things to help me on race day and nothing Disney.

First we went and picked up my bib, it was very good with over 34,000 people running this race they had it set up in groups by bib numbers. No line when I got there and I was able to get it right away!

#1- Yes my bib says Princess Alexandra bet you didn’t know I was an “official” Disney Princess ;).

#2- I was surprised I was not put into the last corral for this race. The reason being was they made you put in your projected finish time, and a previous race that supported that. I think when I signed up (Pre- Baby K) I put in 2:30, my real goal was 2:15. My previous race time as you know was 2:53. They would accept 2:45 at the most, so I was a bit surprised, but glad as this gives me a little more course time to get things done!!! My goal now is 3:00.I plan on walking a lot and not taking chances with my precious cargo in my tummy. I thought I was put into the last one until I saw ladies with bibs that said H.

After my bib pick up we had to pick up Dan’s Cheer Squad stuff. I will post a picture of him in his shirt tomorrow. He has a wristband and gets to relax and be super comfy all race time in a tent with amenities. I am going to the race retreat quickly before the race, Dan cant go in. I will grab some food, hopefully a water bottle and be good to go before race time!

After pick ups it was time to walk around the expo. Sorry no pictures of this, even though there were no bib lines, there were easily still 8,000 people in the expo at this time and it was kind of a small area for that!

Here is what I got/bought:

In the bag I was given, the backpack, t-shirt, bib, safety pins and brochures which you didnt need to see. I bought the interval timer as I run 3-1 intervals and I hate staring at my watch to do it and not over exert myself. This thing buzzes against your skin when an interval ends Awesome! I also bought those shorts, I forgot to pack my spandex/bet they dont fit right now so these ones will be great and together with body glide will stop chaffing! Finally the stick! I wasnt about to lug my foam roller down here so I bought a stick at the expo. One of my calves has been crazy tight and making me sad. Last night Dan rolled out my legs and back, I know I am spoiled!

Then it was back to the hotel where we had more animals show up outside our window because it was feeding time! We saw a zebra in the distance but it was a bit too far for us!

There was this bird with really long legs!

Which was shocking because look how short the one on the tree looks here!

Then two very hungry things that look like deer, sorry I don’t know any names!

Then we headed to the buffet here for dinner.

IMG_3505 IMG_3507

My Dinner: Pita bread, hummus, soup, cabbage, chicken, mac and cheese and a cornbread muffin!

Dessert: a lot of grapes and pineapple!

It was very good and we were happy with the choice to eat there!

Okay well time to get ready then off to the parks! Hope everyone back home is having a nice day, even with all the snow!!!

Mitten Run 5k!

2 Dec

So this is it! The end of my 2012 (and very first) racing season! It started much like it began, running in cold weather in underarmor, this time through the streets of West Hartford and not Hartford. It ended much differently than my first race as well.

The Race:

They said get there early and we did around 9:30 am the race had a 10:30 am start. We headed over to the pre-registration line which was giant and easily over an hour wait! The girls in front of us noticed a second line starting and we followed them! We got my bib and t-shirt in around 5 minutes awesome, since it was so cold!!!! The problem was they wanted everyone to line up in one line then had a lady telling everyone which line was open. This just made everything slower, as much smaller  and larger races of theirs I have done had multiple lines and a dedicated person checking you in. If they had done that it would have gone a lot smoother/quicker.

I wanted to wear my underarmor so I did but I also wore shorts and a t-shirt over them a I refuse to wear running tights without pants over them, a bit too showy for my taste plus I don’t have the figure for that! So I did I also wore a knitted headband with a giant flower…because I am cool like that!

I wore my team Karnolt Shirt as it is green (hello Christmas themed race) and the same accent color as my shoes.

This morning I also made the key decision to wear my tights like I wear my leggings and pull them over my heel into my sneaker…no ridding up= More Warmth!!!

Why yes this was my Mizuno’s Christening into racing! It went well with only a bit of foot soreness when I finished but I will elaborate on that in a moment

I loved the snowmen starting line! So CUTE!!

I sneakily took this picture and was very envious of these peoples outfits! Bet they were super warm the entire race!

As you can see by the snowmen starting line picture it was soon 10:20 and due to the long lines the race was delayed by 15 minutes, so it began at 10:45.

Is this picture me being annoyed with the late start time orrrrr super tired due to our work Christmas Party being last night? You decide!

Honestly I think it was because I was so tired and so cold. I do have to thank Dan immensely for attending the race to watch me and be the best photographer!!!

So the race started late I heard the gun go off and cued up my favorite running CD. This might be weird but it is Christina Aguilera’s new cd Lotus and is AMAZING the faster songs are all self impowering and thus made me feel like a super star runner. Also the reason I finished the first mile in 9 minutes. Army of me (a song) is an absolute miracle worker for your confidence in yourself.

If you are a reader of the blog you know that is FAST for me. I was really winded and took a walk break knowing I had made a rookie mistake! But I compsed myself after a 1:30 break and decided I was going to use this race for what I set out for it to be. A speed building interval run.

Running 3:1 intervals- 3 minutes full out sprinting and then 1 minute to recovery walk worked wonders! I was running pretty quickly and able to burn up any and all time lost when walking. The best part of the whole race was we were almost at the third mile and I was finishing up a walk break. I had pushed myself hard through the cold and knew I was breathing hard. A girl ran by me and said your doing great you got this. It was just what I needed going back into my run to end the race. It is also the reason I really love racing. I am not fast and I will never win BUT people are so encouraging and everyone is glad to see and meet other runners!!!

The course was hilly and luckily the end of the race was a downhill followed by a turn to the finish. On the downhill my lungs were on fire and I wanted to stop, I had completely tunned out the music that was blaring from my headphones and was now in an all out sprint to the finish. One other guy was doing the same, I beat him and I high fived Santa!!! It all felt good, followed immedietly by the feeling of I might vomit but I didnt it was great!!! Dan was there right in front at the finish to get pictures and I love him so much for that as he is not a fan of crowds and with 2500 people at the race there was CROWDS!

Here are a few pictures and my final thoughts:

Almost done!

IMG_2926Going to high five santa, even though I look super intense I was so excited and thought I was really cool!

AND DONE!!! Honestly I was so excited to be finished as you can probably tell from the highness of my sneakers off the ground. Clearly proper form is right up there on my list of priorities!

My first race a 5k my goal was to beat 45:00 and I did coming in at 36:26 I honestly would not have done as well if Dan wasnt there to push me I was ready to give up and thought you suck, you shouldn’t run. Looking ahead to now. My offical time today was somewhere around 35:28 as Dan had taken a clock picture as well, but my garmin time (started as I crossed the start line) was 35:00. Maybe its not a huge imporvement over that February race but it is something. I had little hope for this race as I had been running whenever I had time and my workouts were not to my approval most of the time. BUT 35:00 is only .24 slower than my PR at that distance! 24 SECONDS IS nothing so I know I am making progress!!!

2012 Race Season also held my first Half Marathon! It made me realize I am a much better runner than I thought and have the power to do whatever I set my mind to. It also made me fall in love with distance running. Running long distances is easier FOR ME than full out sprinting for 3.1 miles!

Who knows what 2013 will hold!?!

Thank you for all of your support this race season and for reading my blog and being interested in my journey to become more fit and a better runner!!!!

PS- the race collected hats and mittens for the community so I donated some as well!!!

A weeks worth of posts!!!

4 Nov

So I have not posted since Wednesday! Bad ALEX!!!!

However that is good news for you the readers because now you get an interesting post to read full of all the fun things I missed!!!

Luckily this (flipped over flower pots and pumpkins.) Plus a few big trees taken down in our back yard (far from the house) are all that we incurred from Sandy. Living near Massachusetts more than New York was a saving grace this time! Note I am in no way down playing this storm just saying we were lucky! Only being without power for three days was great compared to Hurricane Irene and Winter storm Alfred when our area of CT was without power for 10 days and 11 days respectively! Again not downplaying the storm just relaying my experience with it. My prayers go out to those effected including friends in the city. That is all I will say about the storm. Other bloggers have been getting a lot of hate for not respecting the storm and covering it. I however use my blog as a place of positivity and to get away from bad things in the world so that is that.

New Meal Monday:

Because we lost power I could not cook and we moved in with Mom and Dad and Zoe (their dog) our new meal was made by Mom. Instead of a recipe I have a picture…a yummy picture….

Pot Roast and Sausage Peppers and Onions a strange but delicious combo!

There was no training today because without power and no chance of a hot shower (we have a well) I cancelled going to Jeff’s and thanks to no daylight savings time yet it was dark when I got out of work so no run and no treadmill with no power….basically you didnt miss anything interesting!

Wacky Fact Wednesday!

Only 3 for last week:

1.) We got out of work at 12pm Monday because of the storm. So Dan and I starting watching a movie I had a good setup going until we lost power but oh well we just took a nap before going to may parents…

A glass of riesling and three caramels next to our wedding picture= perfection!

2. Mom and Dads dog is super cute but NOT a fan of Finny!

Here is her disappointment over Finny not sharing his dinner with her…

Excuse the bicycle tire. She likes to lay right there and it is next to my dad’s bike which is on an indoor trainer….she is a sad lady right here.

3.  Because we got our power back Wednesday we were able to hand cany out to trick or treaters…a big deal because last year at the same time we were hit with a few feet of snow and had no power so Halloween was cancelled in the State of CT many thought it would happen again!!!

Treat yourself Thursday was a bit different this week I treated myself to salads for lunch and dinner.

For lunch I went to Subway and learned a very important lesson….NEVER ask this girl to put dressing on my salad again…because

It was still good just really RANCHY!

For dinner it was Chicken Salad, Tuscan Salad with dressing in a packet on the side…

SO delicious! They were nice treats for salads…especially when you are craving a lot of VEGGIES!!!

Friday I had a Scentsy Event at a local school it went well and I took my new recruit with me so she could get contacts!!

Saturday was our house warming it was so much fun and I was so busy that I didnt take any pictures….so you know it was a good time!

Sunday- I was supposed to run a race, but a busy day combined with people at my house til 2:30 am= me not doing the race. Plus this afternoon I had a baby shower to attend, but more on that tomorrow!!!

Now you are all caught up on my life through the hectic storm to now. I will resume my regular posting schedule and keep you all entertained! Until tomorrow 🙂

Race Day Part 2….

31 Oct

There will be no New Meal Monday today or Training Tuesday or Wacky Fact Wednesday! Thanks hurrciane Sandy!!!

Anywho that just means I can update the rest of the race day now.

After the race we were hungry so we headed to Moe’s and how can you say no to that!!!

I got chicken club quesadillas and dan got nachos!

A blurry picture of my food is still a delicious one!

Why do I love Moe’s most….

Salsa bars are fabulous! Especially when you love sauces like I do, which led to this…

I know you are enjoying the shot of my leg, sock and glimpse of my Kinvara 3’s as well! Aside from that though we have, Queso, Guacamole, Pico de Gallo, Regular Salsa and Serano Chile Salsa. AN AMAZING FLAVOR COMBO! I love sauces and thus Dan call me the sauce boss. That nickname was being thrown out quite a lot Sunday!

After that we headed to Dick’s Sporting Goods so I could FINALLY buy a foam roller….best call ever!

I was so excited to use it and was sore after the race :).

This was how I spent most of the rest of the day once home! Compression socks served me well during the race and continuing under the sweat pants I put on also!

Then Dans parents came over and brought us the cutest gift!

A striking resemblance to our little boy! SO GRATEFUL FOR WONDERFUL GIFTS! We are glad they were thinking of us, (or at least of the granddog).

Later after the Giants beat the Cowboys :). We had this for dinner….

Chicken fried rice and PF Changs Chicken Teriyaki Egg Rolls. YUMMY!!!

We ended the day watching Dexter in the basement which we finally got set up…

Ignore my nasty feet….just look how cute my little Family is!!!

It was a great end after a rocky start to the day!

PS- I am in the region that was effected by Hurricane Sandy. We lost power at 3:06pm Monday and got it back sometime after 5:00pm tonight. This is the reason I have not posted and Dan and I are extremely grateful that the worst thing to happen was to be without power for a few days! To all who lost their homes, loved ones, etc. My prayers go out to you and I hope you are all safe now.

Some disappointing news and a little bit of sarcasm!

8 Oct

You know when I get disappointed I have to add some sort of sarcastic humor to it! So I will NOT be running the ING Hartford Half marathon this weekend major sadness!!!!

I went to the doctor today because I have been seriously battling a cold turns out its a sinus infection mixed with bronchitis…..YEA BAD NEWSSSSS!!!!! Also now that I am on these bad mamajammas I cannot be running!

Let me just say the tiny clear cough medicine drops that say may cause drowsiness will knock you the heck out! I am on each type of medicine for 1 week…..NO Race, especially since I do not want to be passing out running or making it two miles and actually coughing up a lung. Plus the Dr told me I couldn’t my eyes may have watered and my voice may have gotten a bit shaky when he told me no. BUT I know that if I hadnt gone to the doctor I would have run it no matter what because you cant be a whimp! So it is for the best!

Plus there is ALWAYS next year in which I plan to run the marathon portion and not the half, so I can kick its butt even harder! Also there is always another race and I will run a second half before the year is out! I am officially addicted to the distance and will conquer it….Half Marathons Will be my bitch 🙂

Sorry maybe its the medicine talking I did take one of the magical coughing pills….so goodnight friends and if you are running the half or marathon good luck to you! I will still be picking up my bib and going to the expo because WHY NOT RIGHT!!!!!

Color Me Rad Tidbit

26 May

Color Me Rad was so much fun! I will post an in depth race review later, and you know I had my Aunt Kim take Nerdy Pictures of me for this blog!!!!

This was my face after the race, and super fun to get off when I got to work!

I would definitely do this race again, it was so much fun! The only after issue I had was all the colors went through the shirt, right onto my collarbones and chest, and with no mirror in our work bathroom I was looking like an abuse victim with yellow and purple highlights. One co-worker was calling me braveheart! However I have now showered and most of the color is gone….the best part is my left arm and hand are n longer yellow!

Like I said full race recap tomorrow, but tonight I am spending time with friends :).

Have a great Holiday weekend everyone, I will be working again tomorrow but only 10-2, then another full day of festivities!!!

I ask you….

24 May

is there anything better than this sight?!?!?!?! Picture an amazon box and inside of it is this.

Also I am loving that nail polish right now. I had a Scentsy party at Mom Karnolts tonight, (thank you so much again for doing that!) When we got home that and my Scentsy warmer and scent of the month kit was on the front steps! I am so tired and dont have time to write much else! So just know I will wear these bad boys to my training session tomorrow morning with Jeff and give you a full review. Also tomorrow I will be posting about the last day of Mexico!!!
